Donors gave generously, resulting in the campaign exceeding its goal and raising a total amount of $82,558. The second edition of the organization\u2019s summer campaign took place from July 20 to August 20, 2017. It was established to help the 39,400 young Montrealers between the ages of three and 17 who rely on some form of food assistance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>We are pleased to announce that the campaign\u2019s results exceeded our expectations! We raised the unexpected amount of $82,558\u201d<\/em>, said Richard D. Daneau, Moisson Montr\u00e9al\u2019s Executive Director this morning. \u201c<em>We are grateful for the trust that the population of Qu\u00e9bec has demonstrated in us. Also, we would like to thank all of our benefactors: \u00a0the companies, the foundations, the general public, and the volunteers who willingly gave their time to see that the campaign\u2019s goal was achieved. Every donation was a tangible act that enabled us to come to the assistance of Montrealers who don\u2019t have enough to eat.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Florence Longpr\u00e9, spokesperson of the campaign, took the opportunity to highlight the generosity of donors \u00a0<em>\u201cThanks to all of the people who supported us, our fundraising efforts were very successful. We demonstrated that, once again, together we can make a difference.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There is increased demand on food banks during the summer holidays as children no longer have access to school meals and many family assistance programmes are suspended. The second edition of the <em>Hunger Doesn\u2019t Take a Holiday <\/em>campaign allowed Moisson Montr\u00e9al and its partners to take on the task and offer healthy foods to families who rely on their support during the summer months.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>No relief from hunger<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The challenge of hunger in Montreal doesn\u2019t diminish from one season to another. Moisson Montr\u00e9al is always fighting hunger. Every month, there are approximately 137,000 people in Montreal who require urgent food assistance. With the winter holiday season fast approaching, Moisson Montr\u00e9al, the largest food bank in Canada, is already busy preparing Christmas baskets to provide its 254 partner organizations with baskets containing varied and quality foods, including products such as meat and other fresh foods.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>About <em>Hunger Doesn\u2019t Take a Holiday<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Moisson Montr\u00e9al, Moisson Rive-Sud and Moisson Estrie worked together to implement the second edition of the campaign, which sought to raise the sum of $50,000 in cash donations, in order to enable Moisson and its partner organizations to better respond to the increased need of Montreal families for food assistance during the summer holidays. The campaign\u2019s goals were accomplished thanks to the support of its donors and partners: the Malouf Family Fund at the Foundation of Greater Montreal, Quebecor, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and La Ronde. Through its centre for collecting, sorting and distributing emergency food assistance, the organization supplies nearly 1,200 tons of food per month to nearly 250 accredited community organizations on the Island of Montreal. In turn, these organizations provide food assistance to 137,000 people, including close to 45,000 children. Moisson Montr\u00e9al receives funding and supplies mainly through donations. Its operations require the collaboration of nearly 10,000 volunteers each year and, in 2016-2017, Moisson Montr\u00e9al redistributed about 14.4 million kilos of food, representing a total value of $80.3 million. Moisson Montr\u00e9al has won four awards for its Food Recovery Program in Supermarkets: the 2017 DUX prize in the Projects Category, the Sustainable Development award from Mercuriades, the 2015 Corporate Citizenship (Supply category) award from Novae and the \u00c9lixir prize (Coup de Coeur category) from PMI-Montr\u00e9al.
