Share a white wine!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Montreal, May 25th<\/sup>, 2016 <\/strong>\u2013\u00a0For the sixth year running, the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des alcools du Qu\u00e9bec (SAQ) is encouraging its customers to visit an SAQ store and buy a bottle of white wine during the Generous Wine Weekend on May 27, 28 and 29. For each bottle of white wine sold, the SAQ will donate $1 to Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ). Customers will also be able to make a donation at the checkout counter by \u201cgenerously spreading\u201d a symbolic piece of toast with the topping of their choice: $1 for peanut butter, $2 for jam, $3 for honey, $4 for cheddar and $5 for terrine. The most enthusiastic donors will combine flavours, because a piece of toast topped with terrine and cheddar has an extra something\u2026 that can make an enormous difference to a family in need. All funds raised will be distributed to the 19 Moissons food banks across Quebec.<\/p>\n

A white wine for a good cause<\/strong>
\n\u201cAt the SAQ, we like to share advice as well as our enthusiasm for wines,\u201d said Alain Brunet, President and Chief Executive Officer of the SAQ. \u201cAnother way of sharing is to give back to the community. Each spring, during the Generous Wine Weekend, we invite customers to join our chain of sharing in support of food assistance to help ensure Quebecers get enough to eat. On May 27, 28 and 29, be sure to drop by your favourite SAQ store and pick up a bottle of white wine for a good cause,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

$1 = 3 meals<\/strong>
\n\u201cEach month, Food Banks of Quebec handles more than 1.7 million requests for emergency food assistance. What\u2019s more, the current economy means that demand is constantly growing,\u201d said Zakary O. Rhissa, Executive Director of Food Banks of Quebec. \u201cBy spring, the food banks are often empty. When you consider that a $1 donation equals three meals, you can see that the SAQ\u2019s Generous Wine Weekend really makes a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nMeanwhile, Quebecers who buy a bottle of their favourite white online will be able to take advantage of the opportunity to make a personal donation on the FBQ website www.banquesalimentaires.org\/en\/make-a-donation<\/a>. They will also be able to make their family members and friends aware of the food assistance cause by using the #GenerousWines hashtag on social media.<\/p>\n

\nLast year, thanks to the generous contribution of Quebecers, Moisson Montr\u00e9al received a donation of $ 133,254 which helped distribute healthy food to 167 families of 4 during a whole year.<\/p>\n

\nFor more than 25 years, the Food Banks of Quebec network has supported and represented the 19 Moisson members (regional food banks) and 11 associate members that together supply some 1,064 community organizations. They serve more than 400,000 hungry individuals in Quebec, including 150,000 children. \nThe SAQ\u2019s mandate is to sell alcoholic beverages by offering a broad range of quality products. The company carries out its mandate through a network of some 400 SAQ stores and 440 agency stores. It sells 12,500 products from 71 countries. In addition to fulfilling its commercial mission, each year the SAQ contributes to some 500 organizations and events across Quebec through its donation and sponsorship program.
