Moisson Montreal\u2019s accredited partners see the demand for their support increase, and so our reserves empty quickly.<br \/><a class=\"button small, medium, large white, yellow, orange, red, blue, green, gray, black, alternative-1, alternative-2, alternative-3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moissonmontreal.org\/en\/holidayhunger\/\" target=\"_blank or _self\">More informations<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"panel\" id=\"panel4129725132\"><p>Our mission does not consist solely of collecting and distributing foodstuffs. In fact, we also carry out different types of food support projects. Various\u00a0large-scale innovative projects are being developed to ensure better accessibility, quality and variety of food for the less fortunate population of Montreal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Food Recovery Program in Supermarkets<\/strong><br \/>\nIn collaboration with the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Food Recovery Program in Supermarkets (FRPS) was created in October 2013. It is the\u00a0first of its kind in Canada and offers a unique and sustainable solution to the problem of food\u00a0insecurity and waste. Moisson Montr\u00e9al has reached a province-wide agreement with the Metro, Super C, Provigo and Maxi grocery stores to recover of unsold foodstuffs, which will then be\u00a0distributed to community organizations.\u00a0Moisson Montr\u00e9al will recover unsold foodstuffs that are still safe for consumption from\u00a0supermarket partners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are five categories of foodstuffs recovered:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Meat and meat substitutes<\/li>\n<li>Baked goods<\/li>\n<li>Varied products<\/li>\n<li>Frozen products<\/li>\n<li>Fruits and vegetables<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Why create this program?<\/strong><br \/>\nMoisson Montr\u00e9al is constantly seeking innovative and sustainable solutions to the problem of\u00a0food insecurity and waste. We thus seized on this opportunity to offer our accredited\u00a0organizations better services and to reduce food waste, including the pollution related to waste\u00a0management. In addition, FRPS also generates cost savings for our organizations and\u00a0supermarkets.\u00a0Meat represented less than 1% of the foodstuffs that we distributed; yet, it is the item most\u00a0sought by our organizations. With this donation, the Foundation, which has contributed more than $3 million to our organization since 1991,\u00a0will cover costs associated with training personnel, purchasing and maintaining refrigerated vehicles, buying freezers, building a test laboratory, hiring new drivers and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To access the most recent data on our Food Recovery Program in Supermarkets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moissonmontreal.org\/document\/fact-sheet-frps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Feeding Our Future<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moissonmontreal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Logo-Feeding-our-Future.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2732\" src=\"https:\/\/www.moissonmontreal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Logo-Feeding-our-Future.png\" alt=\"Feeding our Future\" width=\"212\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a>In spite of studies on delays in growth, of the increased risks of illness and of underachievement at school caused by hunger, there are still <strong>over 2 million children in Canada suffering from undernourishment<\/strong>. An estimated 5.5 million Canadians are at risk of famine and 40% of children rely on food banks in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>To help alleviate this problem, Sodexo established the Feeding Our Future program. Funded by the <a href=\"http:\/\/ca.sodexo.com\/caen\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sodexo Foundation<\/a>, Feeding Our Future donates the necessary food and labour to provide summer lunches to children who are given subsidised meals during the school year. Moisson Montr\u00e9al is proud to participate in this program since 2001. We provide and deliver close to\u00a0<strong>39,000 lunches<\/strong> to \u00a0<strong>916\u00a0young children<\/strong> from 12 day camps supported by our accredited community organizations. Moisson Montr\u00e9al wishes to thank\u00a0d\u2019<a href=\"http:\/\/www.olymel.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Olymel<\/strong><\/a>, the program\u00a0main sponsor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pool resources of community organizations for group purchases<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>RAOC member organizations served by Moisson Montr\u00e9al benefit from a co-op structure for the purchase of foodstuffs to add to their supply.
