ADVISORY: FRAUDERS TARGET MOISSON MONTREAL
Montreal, Friday October 23 2009 — Canada’s largest food bank, Moisson Montreal, is the target of frauders operating in the Rosemont-Petite-Patrie borough of Montreal. At least one individual going door-to-door to potential donors seems to be conducting unauthorized and fraudulent solicitation activities. This individual claims to have been mandated by the organisation Vision Mondiale to solicit funds from the Montreal community, on behalf of Moisson Montreal. Montrealers are advised that Moisson Montreal does not conduct door-to-door fundraising drives and that no individual or organisation has been mandated to conduct a program of this nature on its behalf. We are publishing this advisory in order to sensitize our donors and the public and in the hopes of sparing them this fraud.
Moisson Montreal’s administration was notified of this situation on Thursday October 22nd, thanks to a call from a citizen who had been the target of a solicitation which she considered to be suspect. We immediately advised police and Vision Mondiale.
If you believe you have been contacted by a person with fraudulent intent and that this person claims to represent Moisson Montreal, we would invite you to contact us. You may also contact neighbourhood police.
The Government of Canada has published information on ways to counter this type of fraud. We invite you to consult this practical guide online at: http://www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/eic/site/cb-bc.nsf/eng/h_00122.html
