Coalition énergie et construction durable (CECD), a combination of interveners active in the field of building construction and management, has approached Moisson Montréal, offering to renovate and upgrade its building, in the hope of making Moisson Montréal a paragon of energy efficiency.

This far-reaching project is aimed at substantially reducing operational costs from a sustainable development viewpoint. La CECD also wants to use this project to make different levels of government, as well as building owners, managers and operators more keenly aware of the importance of making significant investments to improve buildings built more than 50 years ago and usually consuming very large amounts of energy.

As a result of this work, which is to be performed in three stages until it is finished in 2008, the Moisson Montréal team will be working in a more effective, more ecological building. Note that the building’s heating system, cooling, air conditioning and insulation will be improved thanks to the use of innovative technological advances. A solar wall will also be built and the lighting will be completely overhauled. The warehouse will also be completely refitted and refurbished thus allowing employees, volunteers and voluntary workers to work more effectively, safely and comfortably.

This project is a first as this is the first time the building industry rallies around such a far-reaching renovation project to benefit a non-profit organization. Thanks to the efforts and involvement of some thirty seasoned experts (energy consultants, architects, engineers, manufacturers, building contractors and management software designers ) a built-in design was created.
